Conclusion
A turning point in legislative history, FOIA embodies our society's quest for an open government while maintaining a balance between citizens' rights and government's rights and responsibilities.
For almost fifty years, FOIA has armed millions of U.S. citizens with the right to information and has forever changed the relationship between the government and the people. In order for FOIA to foster greater trust between the government and the people, it must continue to evolve to make government information available to the public more quickly, easily, and effectively. |
