The End ResultIn court, FOIA was used to balance rights and responsibilities. It was ruled that citizens had the right to access the list of Guantanamo Bay detainees and the U.S. Department of Justice fulfilled their responsibility to provide them with it.
The government also fulfilled their right and responsibility to withhold certain information, with deletions of information justified by Exemptions 1, 5, and 6.
